June 2011
Aloha Colleagues,
The volunteer teaching team from Hawaii (USA) returns to South Africa for the eleventh successive year under the auspices of Teachers Across Borders. Since 2001, more than 50 teachers from Hawaii have facilitated Mathematics and Science workshops with 3000 of our colleagues in 4 provinces of South Africa during the June-July school holidays.
TABSA is a volunteer team funded by ourselves, families, and friends in local communities. There are no paid teachers, staff or administrators in the entire Teachers Across Borders organization. It is in this spirit that our colleagues in South Africa also attend voluntarily during their holidays, enabling us all to work together to give our learners better opportunities for success.
Our workshops in June-July 2011 will be held in the Eastern Cape – in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Leadership Institute in Mthatha and East London. TABSA appreciates the cooperation and collaboration of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) and the Eastern Cape Department of Education.
While more than 500 teachers will attend the 2011 workshops, our hope is that this CD will reach many more educators. The content covers “Senior Phase” mathematics and natural science, IT, as well as other useful information for teachers. Please feel free to make copies of this CD and share it with our colleagues in other schools.
With best wishes and much respect for all that you are doing to educate our children.
